A hero among us
So many people are wrapped up in their day to day survival that they forget to take a step back and examine their life for what it is. For me I chose to find something I am thankful for each day. I do not want to become a person who is blinded by what I think I should have vs. what I do have. There are so many in this world that have so much less then myself, how can I not give thanks for the most simple aspects of my life? Watch this video. This is a man who has chosen to help others. He is a true hero.
Today I am thankful for those people that chose to give of themselves. The ability to give and not expect in return is a true gift.

Wow, how inspiring. Examples like this do make me step back and reflect on the qualities that make heroes amongst us. One primary quality being "the ability to give and not expect in return." I am grateful that you acknowledge such people, Allison. I am also grateful that you have chosen to be be consciously thankful for the gifts in life, regardless if they are seen as such by others. My husband and I last night were discussing the "Disney Perspective." Most in the American culture grew up with Disney, where good always conquers evil and there's always a happy ending. In many ways, this has shaped our perspective of how we view situations and circumstances. We expect there to be a happy ending. And yet in doing so we set ourselves up for disappointment, because the expectation of a happy ending isn't always fulfilled in real life. I think that when we have an attitude of gratefulness, we are training ourselves to see good in life regardless of a happy or unhappy ending.
